Headache & Migraine Care with Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine
Recurring headaches and migraines can interfere with work, sleep, concentration, driving, and everyday activities. At Wellness Body Worx in Etobicoke, we provide acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments tailored to your symptoms, health history, and clinical assessment.
Your individualized treatment plan may include acupuncture, Chinese Tuina massage, Gua Sha, fire cupping, or laser acupuncture, depending on the type of headache, associated neck and shoulder tension, and your treatment goals.
Book Your AppointmentHeadache describes pain or pressure felt in the head, face, scalp, or upper neck. Different headache patterns can have different causes. Tension-type headaches are often associated with pressure or tightness, while migraine may cause moderate to severe throbbing pain together with nausea or sensitivity to light and sound.
Some people experience occasional headaches, while others have recurring episodes that significantly affect daily life. New, severe, changing, or unexplained headaches should be medically assessed before complementary treatment.
Every visit begins with an assessment of your headache pattern, associated symptoms, possible triggers, neck and shoulder tension, general health, and relevant medical history. This information helps determine whether treatment at Wellness Body Worx may be appropriate or whether medical assessment should come first.
When appropriate, one or more therapies may be used to help manage discomfort, address associated muscle tension, support relaxation, and complement your broader healthcare plan. Treatment is individualized and does not replace medical diagnosis, prescribed medication, or urgent care.

Tuina is a traditional Chinese therapeutic massage using manual techniques for muscles, tendons, joints, and movement. It may be included when headache symptoms are accompanied by neck, shoulder, or upper-back tension.
Gua Sha uses a smooth-edged instrument over selected areas of the body. When clinically appropriate, it may be used to address soft-tissue tightness in the neck, shoulders, and upper back that accompanies some headache patterns.
Fire cupping creates controlled suction over selected muscles and soft tissues. It may be used for muscular tightness around the upper back and shoulders when that tension is associated with a patient's headache pattern.
Laser acupuncture provides needle-free stimulation to selected acupuncture points. It may be an option for patients who prefer treatment without needles, depending on their assessment and treatment goals.
Headaches and migraines do not affect everyone in the same way. After your assessment, your practitioner will recommend care based on your symptoms, headache pattern, associated muscle tension, health history, comfort, and goals. Your plan may include one therapy or a combination of therapies.
Headaches may have many possible causes and triggers. Identifying patterns can help determine whether Traditional Chinese Medicine may complement your care and whether medical investigation is needed.
Prolonged computer or phone use, driving, poor posture, and neck or shoulder tension may contribute to some headache patterns.
Emotional stress, fatigue, insufficient sleep, oversleeping, or changes in routine may trigger headaches or migraines in some people.
Not drinking enough fluid, fasting, or missing meals may contribute to headache symptoms for some individuals.
Bright or flickering lights, loud sounds, strong smells, and prolonged screen exposure may trigger symptoms in people who are sensitive to them.
Some people notice migraine or headache patterns connected with menstruation, menopause, or other hormonal changes.
Headaches may also relate to illness, eyesight problems, medication effects, frequent pain-reliever use, injury, or another condition requiring medical assessment.

Acupuncture may be considered as a complementary option for some headache or migraine patterns. Your practitioner will assess your symptoms and health history to determine whether treatment is appropriate.
Recurring, severe, new, or changing headaches should be discussed with a physician or nurse practitioner. Seek emergency care for sudden severe headaches or headaches with neurological symptoms, fever and stiff neck, or recent head injury.
The number and frequency of visits vary according to the headache pattern, duration, frequency, associated symptoms, and individual response. A personalized plan can be discussed after assessment.
No. Do not stop or change prescribed medication unless instructed by the healthcare professional who prescribed it. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine should complement—not replace—necessary medical care.
When neck and shoulder tension is part of the headache pattern, your practitioner may recommend acupuncture, Tuina, Gua Sha, or another appropriate therapy following assessment.
